Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group is founded in 1971. As a large-scale national pharmaceutical corporate group, it not only combines production, learning and research, but also integrates science, industry and trade. While all its workshops and preparations have passed the state GMP certification, the group boasts the TCM extraction base with a TCM extraction annual capacity up to 10,000 tons.

Since its establishment, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group has kept stepping up its scientific and technological innovation and independent brand construction to facilitate the core competitiveness and comprehensive economic strength, aiming at expanding to an internationalized group. All its economic and technological indexes have remained No.1 in the pharmaceutical industry of Jiangsu province for more than a decade in a row since 1996. It has been among the top five in the national pharmaceutical industry for years in a row since 1997. During 2004-2006, with its sales indexes as well as the profit and tax indexes ranking first in pharmaceutical industry all over the country, the group attained a niche among China’s Largest Corporate Group Top 500 and the National Tax Payer Top 500 to emerge as the new champion among China’s pharmaceutical enterprises. Its “Huyou” trademark (literal meaning: protecting and blessing) was entitled the Famous Trademark of China and passed the international certification of the ISO14001, OHSAS18001 and ISO9001 systems.

In the process of development, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group adheres to the route of rise and boom through science and technology in line with the new product development strategy of “three highs and one special” (high scientific and technological content, high added value and high market capacity as well as special treatment effect), while the annual technological innovation and development expenditure account for over 5% of the sales income. In addition to the independent research and manufacture, it seeks wide cooperation with famous academicians and experts as well as universities and institutions at home and establishment of joint laboratories with overseas senior scientists and researchers with a view to joint development and manufacture through the combination of production, learning and research. It has established the Postdoctoral Research Station and the National Technological Center. To shift the science and research orientation to large cities, it has set up research centers in the subsidiaries in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu and Guangzhou, etc. In order to facilitate the breakthroughs and integrated innovation in the vital technologies of TCM modernization, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group and five universities and institutions at home jointly established Nanjing Hailing National Engineering Research Center for TCM Manufacturing Technology under the approval of the National Development and Reform Commission in 2003. It has been listed as the National Innovation-Oriented Pilot Enterprise and the National Key Laboratory of New Medicine and Medicament Technology by the Ministry of Science and Technology since 2006. Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group has raised funds to establish Jiangsu (Taizhou) New Medicine Research Institution as an important part of China (Taizhou) Medical City. The project has been included in the key scientific and technological infrastructure construction projects of the provincial “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, with a total investment of RMB183 million. Through the integration of the scientific and research resources, it plans to construct four major R&D centers, i.e. Chemical Medicine R&D Center, Pharmaceutical Medicament Engineering and Technology Research Center, TCM Manufacturing Technology and Engineering Research Center and Bio-Medicine R&D Technology Center, and set up scientific and technological achievement transformation center and industrialization base as complementary facilities.

Through more than three decades’ accumulation and innovation, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group has formed more than ten series, more than ten formation types, and more than 100 kinds of specifications of product clusters which promote both the traditional Chinese medicine and the western medicine, including antibiotics, medicine for the digestive system and circulatory system, anti-tumor drugs, antifebriles and painkillers. The group mainly manufactures more than ten types of formation, e.g. tablet, capsule, granule, oral solution, syrup, ointment, freeze-dry powder injection, large capacity injection and small capacity injection, of which five kinds of products have been approved for independent pricing by the National Development and Reform Commission, seven have been listed among the national TCM varieties under protection, eight have been selected as the Famous Brands in China, more than 90 have been included in the Medical Insurance Catalog and more than 20 sold in the Middle East, Europe, Singapore, Slovakia, Indonesia and Hong Kong, etc. Lanqin Oral Liquid, Jingqianping Granule, Lohexol and Levofloxacin, etc. have been certified by the China Quality Certification Standard Association as the Good Product of Credible Quality Certified by the National Authoritative Institution. Biling Granule Against Stomachache has been included in the Essential Emergency Drugs in the National TCM Hospitals, Jingqianping Granule has been listed as a Key Promotion Project by the Chinese Medical Association and the group’s knockout product Weisu Granule has been entitled the No. 1 Brand on the Chinese Market for Users’ Satisfaction with Product Quality through a joint investigation of authoritative newspapers and periodicals, authoritative associations and renowned websites.

Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group has always adhered to the corporate principle of “Seeking progress all the time, safeguarding all human beings” and highlighted the people-oriented corporate culture, with a view to building a harmonious enterprise. It had allied with five national ministries and commissions to host the activity of “Care for Health in Western China” for three years in a row since 2001, with the accumulated investment of more than RMB40 million, covering a distance of over 30,000km, in an effort of “sending medicine, drugs and knowledge” to more than ten provinces, cities and autonomous regions in the western part of China. In the fight against SARS in 2003, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group donated the drugs worthy of RMB 5 million to the medical and health institutions throughout the country and RMB 1 million to set up the Yangtze River Anti-SARS Relief Fund. It has also set up the Yangtze River Charity Association locally to care for the disadvantaged group in the society and make contributions to the construction of a harmonious society.
